Most recently, Judy Lambert has broadened her horizon to include the most demanding area in watercolour paintings – the portrait. Her first project in this area was to celebrate the diverse and integrated ethnic mix of her local community with a series of portraits of familiar faces in Northcote.
If you choose to commission a portrait, she will come to your home to take photographic studies of the individual. Because of the personal studies required, this work must be limited to the Greater Auckland area. This will lead to a discussion of the image you are looking for and then to the specific watercolour portrait to capture a moment in your family history.
The photographs which are part of this process are very important. Judy says:
"
I cannot emphasize enough, the need for good photographs for me to work from – the magic of watercolour will create a living image from your photos."
"Most important is a close-up of the head with colours true to life, and character."
"Digital photos are excellent to establish what images you can show me via email, but I need printed copies or transparencies of the selected photos to work from."
